Explore the Habitats and Wildlife of Nova Scotia
Explore the Habitats and Wildlife of Nova Scotia is an interactive activity book that invites children and families to discover the incredible habitats, plants, and animals found throughout Nova Scotia. From forests and freshwater lakes to coastal shores, wetlands, estuaries, and highland barrens, young explorers will learn about the wildlife that calls these places home through fun facts, riddles, stories, mazes and puzzles. The book encourages children to look closely at the natural world around them and develop a deeper appreciation for Nova Scotia’s remarkable biodiversity and the importance of protecting it.
The Adventures of Guillaume Batisseur
Step back in time to 1743 and discover life inside the historic Fortress of Louisbourg through the eyes of eight-year-old Guillaume Batisseur! Co-authored by mother-and-son team Katherine and William Jones, this charming children's book series blends historical fiction, humour, and adventure to introduce young readers to everyday life in 18th-century Cape Breton.
In the first book, The Wishing Well, Guillaume learns a valuable lesson about honesty, responsibility, and the consequences of his decisions after making a wish that doesn't quite go as planned. In the second book, Exploring with Friends, Guillaume and his companions embark on new adventures, discovering the games, friendships, natural surroundings, and unexpected mishaps of childhood in colonial Louisbourg.
Inspired by William's fascination with history, the series brings the past to life through colourful illustrations, relatable characters, and entertaining stories. Together, these books celebrate the joy of storytelling, family creativity, and the idea that history can be just as exciting as any adventure!
